Dr. Kevin Daniels

Dr. Kevin Daniels is a native inner-city Baltimorean and grew up directly across the street from Thurgood Marshall’s home on Division Street. He is a Professor at the Historic Morgan State University and Episcopal Sr. Pastor at the St. Martin Church of Christ in Baltimore. He also chairs the Civic Action Committee (Minister’s Conference Baltimore & Vicinity) and is a monthly Op-Ed contributor (Historic Afro Newspaper).

He is a postdoctoral Harvard University Fellow in the Summer Leadership Institute (Community & Economic Development) and former Senior Fellow with the National Center for Health Behavioral Change, a Kellogg Foundation sponsored Center. Currently, he is a Fellow at the International Institute of Integral Human Sciences (IIIHS) Montreal, Canada.

He holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education from Morgan State University, a Doctorate degree in Theology/Public Health from United Theological Seminary, a Master’s of Science Degree in Social Work (Clinical Counseling/Administration) from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Morgan State University.

He has obtained an Associate Degree in Mental Health and Certification as a Human Service Aide both from Baltimore City Community College. He holds a Certification of Advanced Studies in Addictions Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. He attended Loyola University for a Certification in Pastoral Counseling.

He holds a State of Maryland’s License as a Social Worker and Counselor, and received several city and state community service awards. He is also published in several journals and book chapters, as well as developed The Levitical Cycle of Health – a biblical public health model for health promotion and disease prevention.

Community Work

In addition, Dr. Daniels worked as a Social Worker at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Community Psychiatry Department. He is currently a Professor in the Social Work Department at Morgan State University. He teaches and serves as curriculum Chair over both Human Behavior and the Social Environment and Group Dynamics curriculum sequence; wrote new Critical thinking and Clinical curriculum for Spirituality, Religion and the Helping Tradition for both the undergraduate and graduate programs in both Social Work and across the campus. Dr. Daniels was an adjunct Professor of Psychology at Baltimore City Community College.

He initiated a science and faith network in Baltimore City of the International Reasons To Believe (RTB) (a TBN affiliate), co-sponsored the first Faith, Spirituality, and Health conference through The National Center for Behavioral Health Change at Morgan State University, and was the first Evangelical Pastor to lecture and minister at the global spirituality and science conference of the International Institute of Integral Human Sciences in Montreal Canada (recently became a Fellow of the institute). He serves on several community boards (i.e. Druid Heights CDC, Midtown CDC, which consist of Madison Park, Charles village, Bolton Hill, Mt Vernon, historic Arena Players, Inc.)

Resurrecting the Dialogue

He was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Maryland Judicial Inquiry Board for 10 years. He clearly states that he is first and foremost the Pastor and board chair of the St. Martin Church (20 years), where the focus to the local church and community is “Moving from Healing to Wholeness.”

His motto continues to be that we must Move from Healing to Wholeness.

Dr. Daniels is passionate about resurrecting the dialogue between faith and science as a way to encourage and support urban youth to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

In his new book, “The Resurgence of the Dialogue between Faith and Science in Urban Communities,” Dr. Daniels explores the historical ‘dance’ between religious leaders and scientists as both groups attempt to gain clarity and understanding on life, the meaning of life, and God; how this has negatively affected the urban community, and how opening the dialogue can lead to positive steps forward for urban youth.
